‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ was released as the first single, from Coolio’s second album [also titled Gangsta’s Paradise], on August 8th, 1995.
It was also released on the official soundtrack for the 1995 movie ‘Dangerous Minds’, where it was also released as the first single.
Billboard lists it as the #1 best-selling single of 1995, and it is in the top 100 highest-selling physical-copy singles of all-time [earliest date on said list is 1924].
‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ also won Coolio the Best Rap Solo Performance Grammy, at the 1996 Grammy Awards.
