Professor of Practice of Playwriting Nathan Alan Davis, in partnership with Boston University's MetroBridge program, brought his students to the West End Museum to explore the history of urban renewal that displaced approximately 7,000 residents in 1958. As part of the College of Arts & Sciences’ MFA Playwriting Program, the course Writing the Socio-Political Play examines how playwrights bring historical events to life on stage.
For their final project, students dive into the museum’s archives, researching personal stories, documents, and artifacts from the West End. Each student then uses what they uncover as inspiration to write an original monologue, connecting history, memory, and storytelling through performance.
