Martin Luther King, Jr. Day IS a holiday in the United States of America.
IT
It is on the third Monday of January.
WE
We remember Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
IN
In the United States, there were bad laws. Some people could not go to places or do things because of the color of their skin.
TO
An African American woman named Rosa Parks was tired. On the bus, the bus driver told Rosa to give her seat to a white man. Rosa said “no.” Rosa was arrested. It was not fair.
THE
Dr. King told people the bad laws were wrong. Many people walked with Dr. King to Washington, D.C. They said the laws needed to be changed.
SAID
Dr. King gave a famous speech. He talked to people. He said, “I have a dream.”
AND
Dr. King wanted the United States to be different. He wanted whites and blacks to be treated equally. Dr. King thought the kind of person you are is what is most important.
CAN
We can honor Dr. King by helping other people.
