Dollar Tree Thrift Flip | Dollar Tree Cork Board | DIY Home Décor On A Budget |
I made this home décor piece with all Dollar Tree craft items, except the thrifted frame! #shorts
I took this circular frame I found and traced the inside onto a piece of foam board from Dollar Tree. This will act as a back for the piece! I wanted to darken the frame so I used a watery mixture of the Waverly Antiquing Wax to stain it.
While that dried, I continued working on the background. Using some of the adhesive cork paper from Dollar Tree, that I have previous cut down for a different project, I created a nice textured background. I used hot glue to ensure the cork paper would be nice and secure and I used the Waverly wax to "paint" the foam backing where the cracks would be. I made sure to trim down all of the edges.
Once ready, I added some white chalk paint to the frame and "home" metal sign, which can also be found at Dollar Tree.
When dry, I distressed both pieces, wiped them down and then sealed the frame with Clear Matte Polyacrylic.
I hot glued the backing in and then took a safety pin to poke a hole through the foam boards. I then took a thin floral wire, poked it through and twisted it closed in the back to secure the metal piece to the sign, from the top and bottom. Hot glue and E6000 was not working. I added a bead of hot glue to the back side of the wire to help keep it in place.
To finish off the piece I took plain, white contact paper and cover the back.
