I wrote this song and originally just meant to release it as the instrumental (the yawning sun version). was never quite happy with it, and a year later managed to write lyrics for it... and here we are, uploading it at the beginning of winter. at least it's summer in the southern hemisphere :)
the kawarthas are a super special place for me. it's beautiful in every season - i feel like i find home every time i go. i first thought of writing a song dedicated to the kawarthas when i was lying in the grass with the sun blazing, the sounds of birds and the crickets and the squirrels all around me, reading and listening to good nature by turnover (the BEST summer album fight me), and thinking about how happy I was to be alive and here.

I hear the birds on far away branches
the crickets singing me to sleep
the water spiders tiptoe along
the surface right next to me
We paddle slow,
past all the cardinals
on the bird feeders
