More than three years have passed since the modernization and electrification work began on the West Line, and trains remain running between Torres Vedras and Meleças, in the municipality of Sintra.

The modernization work was supposed to be completed by the end of this year; however, due to the progress of the work, the process is expected to be completed by 2025. The goal is to make a two-hour trip half that time, nearly 50 minutes.

The section between Mira Sintra-Meleças and Torres Vedras stations has been without trains for almost half a year.

Due to the delay in the work, travel to Torres Vedras and Lisbon by public transportation is currently only possible by bus.

With the work still far from complete, the Dois Portos e Runa Parish Council already predicts that the number of new trains will not be sufficient to meet demand.

When asked about the delay in the works, Infraestruturas de Portugal said the line has been vandalized, with reports of material theft and equipment damage.

The electrification of this section has an investment of over 60 million euros and is the first part of a modernization and electrification process on the Western Line, which is also being carried out as far as Caldas da Rainha.
