This was definitely a simpler one, but I am sure that it will be helpful and inspiring to many of you out there. I know there are many other methods of creating very similar animations, such as using actual transparency for the planes and other such methods, but I think this is a quick method that works for most situations and actually renders faster than you would expect.

Pro tip: If you want, you could add in a decimate modifier with the type set to planar, to greatly reduce the number of vertices. This could help render it faster if you have many such items in your scene.
