What Is the Metaverse? | Future Investment Trends | Virtual Reality Space
The word Metaverse is a portmantein of the words Meta and verse. Meta means to transcend, and verse is derived from the word “universe,” meaning whole or total. The term metaverse is often used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the Internet, composed of continuous, shared, interconnected 3D virtual spaces forming a perceived virtual universe.
In a broader sense, Metaverse may refer not only to virtual worlds, but to the Internet in general, encompassing the entire spectrum of augmented reality. Think of it as an Internet you are inside rather than looking at. Avatars can move around in cyberspace in a similar way to how people navigate the real world, allowing users to interact with people on the other side of the planet as if they were in the same room.
Metaverse will not replace the internet, but rather be an upgraded version of it. You will need to log in and connect to it with a VR headset (a head-mounted display). Then, you can interact with objects as usual. Instead of seeing images on a screen, they will be projected into your eyes, creating the feeling that you are in a virtual world.
The Metaverse won't replace the internet, but it's an iteration of it. Instead of just texting friends, you can actually meet them or their avatars online. The internet has helped us find friends who are going through similar things. Reddit communities, Facebook groups, blogs, chat rooms, etc., have given us the opportunity to vent our frustrations anonymously and receive genuine help without feeling exposed. The Metaverse will have the same greatness that the internet has given us in a supportive way, except with the addition of physical presence and real-time interaction. It will still be anonymous, if desired.
