I try one of Spain’s most impressive railway systems: the cambiador de ancho, where trains can switch track gauge while moving.
In this video, I travel from Camp de Tarragona to Cambrils and pass through a system that automatically changes the train from 1435 mm standard gauge to 1668 mm Iberian gauge — without stopping.
Even crazier: this location also changes the electrical system from 25 kV AC to 3 kV DC, which explains the brief power shutdown during the process.
It’s a short ride, but a perfect example of real-world railway engineering at its best.
