Wait, Peanuts Aren't Technically Nuts?
One of the most nutritious and delicious foods enjoyed around the world is the peanut.
The origin of the peanut plant is commonly attributed to South America. The plant was dispersed by European explorers and finally made its way to Asia, Africa, and North America. China, India, and the United States are the top three peanut producers at the moment.
Around the turn of the 20th century, the United States began to produce more peanuts. This can be attributed to the rise in popularity of peanut butter, candy made from peanuts, and other items using peanuts, as well as to the demand for additional plant oils during World War I and Dr. George Washington Carver's studies.
