CDs, bangles, pizzas.. circles are all around us. What are the different parts of a circle called? What can we understand about their properties? Let's find out!
A circle is the set of all points that are equidistant from one point, which is called the center of the circle, and the set of all points traces the circumference of the circle.
The distance between the center and any point on the circumference is called its radius.
A straight line joining two points on the circumference is called a chord of the circle.
A chord that passes through the center of the circle is called the diameter of the circle. The longest chord of a circle is its diameter.
Here we use simple model to see these properties in action and how to explore them beyond the textbook diagram.
