India's space journey began in 1975 with the launch of the experimental Aryabhatt satellite, which was put into a low-earth orbit by a Soviet launch vehicle. Since then, in several leaps and bounds, the space program has matured and covers a large number of geostationary communication satellites, low-earth and sun-synchronous remote sensing and weather forecast satellites, as well as space exploration missions such as Mangalyaan for exploring Mars, Chandrayaan for exploring the Moon, and Aditya for exploring the Sun. The talk will trace the history of the space program, with a focus on the scientific missions and their achievements, and take a peek at ISRO's future missions.
