Nothing is safe from pests. The best thing to do is check regularly and use preventatives when you can.
I’ve found that adding a liquid BTI solution to the water tank of hydroponic systems helps prevent fungus gnats. I’m currently testing an organic systemic that can also be used in hydroponic systems and lists spider mites as a target pest. Product review coming in the future!
