Write a 1st Class Essay like a Prof (Tips from an ex-Academic)
Today we covered expectations essay examiners have based on marking rubrics (which are a set of criteria for assessments). Any time my students followed this advice, they got first class marks!
In summary:
Understanding and Knowledge - be precise, accurate and always on topic
Critical Appraisal - what are the knowledge gaps and what research would you do next?
Grammar - use grammar checker like grammarly.com
Style - Make sure every page looks identical
References - Use referencing software like mendeley.com or zotero.org
Length - Aim for 95-99% of the maximum word count
Structure:
Introduction: Aims and Objectives; Background information
Main Body: Aim/Objective; Research Data, Critical Appraisal (per section)
Conclusions: Summarize the main body; suggest future research/state your opinion
