Hello World
Hope you are doing well in which ever part of the world you are in.
The internet has some great examples of Math problems and puzzles.
I recently came across this puzzle and had to make a video on it.
So in this video, I will prove that 1 is equal to 2.
And since this cannot be true, I want you to try and find the mistake in this proof.
Ok, lets begin.
So we first start by having 2 variables say a and b
And let us say that a equals b
Now since this is true we can also say that
a square = b square
But since a equals b, I can change this b square to say ab
So we get
a square equals ab
Now if we subtract the same number from both sides, the equation should still hold, right?
So we subtract b squared from both sides.
The Left hand side can be further written as the product of a+ b and a - b
And on the right side, we can get b out and have b times a - b.
Now since we have a - b on both sides, we can just cancel them out. So we are left with
a + b = b
But we started off by saying that a equals b.
So a + b can be written as 2 b
So we have 2 b = b
And cancelling out the b’s, we get 2 =1.
So what is wrong out here?
Did you figure it out.
The problem in Math comes when we divide by Zero.
When you divide by zero all sorts of interesting things can happen.
So where did we divide by zero ? Here,We divided both side s by a - b. But if a equals to b, a - b is zero and we are dividing by zero.
