Hi, I'm Mike Valentine. I'm a cardiologist at UVA, and I'm honored and privileged to be here and to be able to serve the patients that I work with every day.
I see patients on the general medicine side on cardiology. I also see patients with electrical problems such as atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, PVCs, passing out episodes. I see patients who have heart attacks and have had problems with cardiovascular disease of the blockages of the arteries. So lots of different patients on the general cardiology and on the electrophysiology side.
When I was in medical school, I did rotations through orthopedics and through cardiology thinking that I might want to be a team doctor for sports, but my father had some interest in cardiology. And when I did my rotation in cardiology at Emory in Atlanta, it really set things apart for me, and I knew that that's what I wanted to do.
I hope that patients would describe a visit with me as one that was very interpersonal and caring, and I hope that when they leave, they would think that they understood what was going on with their heart and how we were going to try to help them and make them better. We always hope that we're providing the best care possible and that our patients know that we care for them and that we're going to do the best we can to give them the type of care that they expect when they come to a place like UVA.
