It's said that to save gas, you should never turn left. The MythBusters tested this idea with a delivery truck and two different routes, keeping the exact same conditions: same departure time and same six stops. The first, shorter route contains several left turns, forcing the vehicle to stop, wait for traffic, and leave the engine idling unnecessarily. The second route, consisting entirely of right turns, is longer, but the truck is in motion much more often. In the end, despite the greater distance, the route without left turns uses less fuel.
