Red Bull Flugtag - Dún Laoghaire - 2018
On the 20 May, Red Bull Flugtag took off from Dún Laoghaire harbour in front of over 65,000 spectators. The international event saw 43 teams of aspiring aviators and courageous craftsmen, attempt to push the limits of human flight, as they launched their handcrafted flying machines off a 9-metre high flight deck.
Taking the win was team Pink Panther from Co.Kildare. The film themed craft glided to an astonishing 12 metres before crash landing into the harbour below. Teams of five were judged on creativity, showmanship and final distance by a panel of celebrity judges from the world of sport and entertainment.
Presented by Hector Ó Heochagáin and Síle Seoige, this free family event ran from 12.00pm to 4.00pm. Some of the guests in attendance, included Leinster rugby stars Joey Carbery, Josh Van Der Flier Ed and Bryan Byrne, Andy Farrell, GAA legends Joe Canning and Ashling Thompson, TV presenter Sharon Ní Bheolain among many more.
