Lyrics:
Everyone I’ve ever known
Everyone I’ve ever known
Everyone I’ve ever known
Lowered down
Lowered down
Everyone I’ve ever really known
Left me in my all black ill fitting clothes
Hands clutch what the florist call a real fitting rose
With red so pretty we’ll be forgetting what was closed
Soon I’m gonna do the same
I’m gonna leave you when you need me most
Give up the ghost and so will you one day
They said I’m speaking death into the world
I said it’s here already, we’re already less than who we were before
A temple built for little more than giving birth
And sticking around long enough to put your lovers in the dirt
A mausoleum filled with temporary worth
That’s fleeing every second from a wicked earth
Mercy
On my soul
On my soul
On my soul
If a coward dies a million deaths
What’s in his head,
Is it the image of this knife wrenched in his chest
Twisted, turning deep, digging his regrets
Till he’s beggin’ for the same fate the wicked gave
I miss her unexpectedness
I miss her faults and her resistances
Soft whisper instances
We’d talk into this dark with all our pitiless thoughts
For a world that’s overwrought with its emptiness
See I’m not the same as a God
Who can punish a woman claiming His name and His law
So tell me how I pray to this God
Who can claim that He’s just while He takes what He wants
Maybe that’s between me and Him
My scream filled nights when I reach for my friend
But now my best friend's gone
I swear it’s like her side of the bed’s still warm
Mercy
On her soul
On her soul
On her soul
She says she was at peace with God
She could see that we were not
The chaplain gave his final thoughts
She exhaled and smiled and the light was gone
See I lived through "A Grief Observed"
I wonder what I’ll find her when I leave this earth
Beggin’ Jesus take me now to be with her
Cause it’s the evil in a broken heart
That leads you first
See I bargain cause I’m selfish
And I blame almighty God because I’m helpless
She’s in her Father’s arms without a question
Cause a world without her voice is where the hell is
I ain’t excepting what I can’t change
I don’t choose to use perspective as a band-aid
And I ain’t found a remedy that’s man made
But just a bit comfort
While we bottle what we can’t say
Mercy
On our soul
On our soul
On our soul
Mercy
On our soul
On our soul
On our soul
