OK Humane is currently working with Dr. John Otto in a collaborative effort to implement the first dog training program in a women's incarceration facility in the state of Oklahoma. Three OK Humane dogs spent their first 30 days in training with the kennel masters at the Lexington Correctional Center's "Friends for Folks" program in preparation for the training that will soon be happening at Mabel Bassett. These dogs are now paired with six trainers at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center. Each pair of trainers received one dog trained at Lexington to begin their learning process. Lady, a Maltese, came from a puppy mill situation and was shy and scared. After her first month in the program, she has made huge strides and will now approach new people and seek affection.
