Commercial audio distributed speaker systems commonly require that many speakers be driven from a single amplifier over a longer run of speaker wire. This is called daisy-chaining and allows for a more affordable, expandable, and convenient way to install a business sound system. The base of these systems is the 70 Volt transformer instead of a 4 or 8 Ohm impedance value.
In this episode of Pro Acoustics Tech Talk, Nathan and Coltin explain 70V speakers vs 8 Ohms and how 70 Volt sound systems work as well as how to wire a complete 70 Volt speaker system*, from how to connect speakers to an amplifier to connecting speakers in a daisy chain. *Be careful not to cross wires when installing your speakers. Wiring should always be negative to negative and positive to positive.
**When setting speaker taps, the total combined speaker wattage should not exceed the total wattage output of the amplifier minus 20% headroom buffer space.
