In this video, Nathan discusses the differences between balanced and unbalanced audio connections. Balanced audio connections, commonly using XLR and ¼” TRS connectors, are designed to reduce noise and interference, making them ideal for professional audio environments. These cables have three conductors—two signal wires with opposite polarities and one ground wire—which help cancel out any noise picked up during transmission. This makes balanced connections suitable for long cable runs, as they are less susceptible to interference.

On the other hand, unbalanced audio connections, often found in consumer audio equipment, use two conductors: one signal wire and one ground wire. They are simpler but more susceptible to noise and interference, especially over longer distances. Common connectors for unbalanced audio include RCA and TS plugs, like those used for guitar cables. These connections are typically used in home audio systems and are best kept to short cable runs, usually less than 25 feet.

By understanding the differences between these two types of audio connections, you can choose the best option for your audio setup, ensuring optimal sound quality and minimal interference.
