About Neoclassical Art and Collection at V&A:
The manifest styles of Neoclassical came to the fore in the late 1700s and early 1800s in Western Europe, paralleling an explosion of renewed interest in the increasing discoveries of the art, architecture and décor of Classical Antiquity- namely from the Greco-Roman world at the height of their civilisations.

The Victoria & Albert Museum houses a world-famous collection which illuminates the great achievements of Neoclassicism. This personal tour will take you from the reaction against the previous Rococo style in art, through some of the greatest examples of reimagining the myths and legends, gods and goddesses of the ancient Mediterranean world in epic statuary.

Exploring lead characters and paramount events that forged the zeitgeist for Neoclassicism, we will explore some of the finest and most exquisite examples of that period of art and interior style. We hope to illuminate how the Neo-Classical became an almost universally dominant style and show how it permeated the drawing rooms and salons of the great houses of Europe, art schools and private-societies and occupied the brightest critical minds of the era via the V&A’s exquisite exhibits.
