The revolutions of 1989 allowed millions of people to enjoy freedoms that generations before them never thought would be possible. More than 30 years later, issues around the world are threatening everything people in dozens of countries fought so hard for.
The battle for democracy unlocked the freedom to do so many things which we take for granted, the freedoms to vote, protest, love and pray. Now, authoritarian governments are taking back some of our most basic rights, and threatening to tarnish three decades of change.
