Dangerous SUV Driver Hits Elderly Man Crossing Road
Joseph’s holiday in Benidorm turned into a nightmare when he was run down by a car. The vehicle knocked him 20ft through the air as he crossed the road, despite the traffic lights being on red.
For Joseph, recovering from his extensive injuries was only half the battle.
The driver of the vehicle denied being at fault and tried to blame him, leaving Joseph with a fight for justice.

I’d been about nine times before that one. I’d done this road about a dozen times. The lights were on red. We were pedestrians, so we stopped. Car pulled up – big SUV pulled up. I heard a noise, turned, and this guy was coming straight for me. Next thing I know I woke up about twenty yards across the road. And then the ambulance came and I was taken to hospital.
It was terrible. It was painful.
When I came home I had a brace on my leg and couldn’t bend my knee. I had a walking frame so I couldn’t get up my own stairs. I had to go and see a neurologist then because I’d been knocked down and landed on my head.
I was fit for my age. I used to walk every day, maybe only three or four miles, but now I can’t do it. I’ve tried. It’s not going to get any better as time goes on. And that’s about it.
This bloke in the car that hit me said that the car that stopped was broken down, but you don’t break down at the lights. And by the time the police got there, this guy was gone.
It was terrible the way they treated us and they said it was probably my fault I crossed on red. And that was the part that hurt me. And that’s why I said, “Right I’m at my limit now.” I know it wasn’t my fault. I know it was on green when I crossed.
I’m very pleased with the way Slater and Gordon treated me, especially the solicitor I had was great. He phoned me up – we ended up like friends. He’s always kept me informed. He’s always been straight with me and I’ve been straight with him.
They’ve done the best they could.
