Saltykayaks New Hobbies
Over the last several months and actually years, many of Saltykayaks long time viewers have expressed a desire to know what Big John and Salty have been up to. Well first off, let me explain the primary reasons why I am no longer fishing and there are several. 1.) The Lord made it plainly obvious that my fishing days were closing rapidly and He had other plans for my next adventures. 2.) YouTube had done whatever they do to Christian based content creators and my 'income' (gas money) from YT had dramatically dwindled (even though my subscriber base had more than doubled) and the continual upkeep of owning and weekly using a saltwater used boat was eating into our retirement savings. 3.) With Trump on the way out and Biden's war on American energy, I knew that the price of the non-E gas (and even eating) was going to sky rocket.. and I was right. 4.) and the final nail in my fishing ministry was both my right knee and hip were becoming a big hindrance in my ability to deal with the rough conditions of ocean fishing. Come to find out, I have torn cartridge (confirmed in an MRI) in my knee and most likely also in my hip. Bone on bone contact in my knee is NO fun. My Dr said to lay off of bumping, banging and heavy lifting or I might end up in a wheel chair or need a knee replacement. So heavy decisions were made and I basically had to hang up the fishing rods. Next month, I have an appointment with the VA to discuss what can be done to help the 'ol knee so that I can at least be mobile.
This video is showing my Brothers and Sisters of the Hook and Book, that both Big John and I are still active and not in hiding. Here are a few things I have been doing to keep cob webs off of the gray matter. There will be more videos with more focused details on the many aspects of scroll sawing, coffee roasting, back yard target shooting and the rifles used, wood working, etc., etc.
So Saltykayak and Big John are back but in a different capacity but we are still giving all our deep faith and trust in the Lord. We are both still healthy, active and mobile. John just had his 82 birthday last week and reminds me of what Joshua said when he gave God the glory that he (Joshua) was still as strong at 80 as he was at 40.
So stand by as I will also be doing short videos and reviews (honest reviews) on some of the challenges I have dealt with when purchasing some of the equipment I use.
