Since the age of 15 I have dreamed of being a man of the world.
Everyone around me told me it was impossible, that it wouldn't happen, and that I needed to find a real job.
Last Tuesday night I boarded a one-way flight to New Delhi, India. 279 days after I booked a ticket ✈️
I still can't believe that the moment has arrived and I'm already in Dharamsala, starting to acclimate to the fact that I'm an Indian traveling in India and even the Indians think I'm one of their own even though I'm in a village called Dharmkot, which is a mini-Israel, literally.
I started my creative journey on the very first day and took some photos in Delhi. Photography actually helped me start to digest all the non-stop madness that was around me, when all your senses feel overloaded 🤯
The smells of rich spices alongside the burning of garbage and herbs surround my nose. Beggars reaching out on every street, Indian shops with Hebrew inscriptions and even Israeli poetry evenings that emerge every evening from different places. Despite this soft landing - it feels like I have arrived in a completely different world.
The food is the simplest but most profound and diverse in flavors I have ever known. Every meal is a whole world of flavor combinations and balances that never cease to drive my mouth, nose, eyes and mind crazy. Open people who easily start conversations without thinking too much about what the other party thinks of them.
When I arrive at a place, I always try to arrive without expectations from the people around me or from the place itself, because I have discovered that expectations never serve us except as pillows in bed.
But I expected to have a connection with the Israelis in the area - and I was happy to find out that I was wrong. Among other things, there are also amazing people here, lovers of people and life, some of whom travel around the world for months and even years, collecting moments and experiences that will stay with them for a lifetime.
I feel deeply grateful and even a little stupid for underestimating the value of the people here because of the stories and opinions I heard from others. I don't remember when I was so happy to be wrong.
I'm taking a few more days to acclimatize before I start working with Rabak on the editing of my digital course that I've been working on for over a year - a course that will transform people from those interested in photography, into photographers who can photograph anything well.
I've never felt so at peace with myself, so sure of what I'm doing with such complete faith. I have patience and I'm not looking to rush my journey. I'm looking to enjoy what's happening here and now.
Whatever happens here.
