The maximum likelihood - expectation maximisation (ML-EM) algorithm (EM-ML) for medical image reconstruction, often used in positron emission tomograpy (PET) as well as in single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Here an [18-F]FDG ([¹⁸F]fluorodeoxyglucose) distribution inside a brain for a PET scan is simulated, and the reconstruction is demonstrated for a noise-free sinogram.
