Flying into the smoke: FIREX-AQ Flight Video
"Fire Influence on Regional to Global Environments and Air Quality (FIREX-AQ), a joint venture led by NOAA and NASA, provides comprehensive observations to investigate the impact on air quality and climate from wildfires and agricultural fires across the continental United States." -- description from NOAA.
This video was taken on August 16, 2019, when the NOAA-Chem Twin Otter aircraft flew from Boise Airport to the Granite Gulch fire in northeastern Oregon. You can see 2 sampling inlets (for gas phase and particle phase) just under the bubble window on the plane. After sampling the smoke plume several times, the plane landed in McCall Airport.
