People always ask why I run my tire pressure so low (usually 20 psi) on my competition trials bike. There are a couple reasons - mostly for traction, rebound, and softening landings (in that order). I run a wider tire for my competition bike to maximize all three of those things - but on my street trials and mountain bikes, I run a thinner tire to keep the rolling resistance a bit lower.
