Twickenham Stadium and Museum - Virtual Tour
Hi, I'm Ben and we're here at the World Rugby Museum at Twickenham Stadium. The museum houses the largest collection of rugby memorabilia in the world. So we have over 40,000 objects - loads of jerseys, photographs, so we have a number of star items in our collection in the museum.
They include two oldest international football jerseys in the world, one from the adult game from the England-Scotland 1871 match and also from the boy's game in 1905. There is also the Calcutta Cup Cup - the oldest international football trophy in the world, and we also have a number of amazing additions like the original laws that were written for the game, olympic medals, and even the odd random thing in the collection like a sword.
The World Rugby Museum narrates the story of Rugby's history, where it all started at rugby school and moves onto the internationality of rugby and all the different player nations/donations????. It covers topics such as professionalism and the big debate in 1895, and moves onto rugby's role in World Wars aparthide and our six nations and our World Cup section. We also have loads of interactives throughout the museum which makes it really special - including our play rugby zone where kids can test their agility, their strength, their speed against machines.
The interactive is suitable for all ages, we have kids playing, we have adults playing - it can be quite the competition between families. But if they don't want to play, we also have other interactives such as the commentators machine where they can commentate on games, can learn how being a physio is really important as well, and coaching the game too, and we also run Twickenham Stadium tours. Stadium tours give everybody a special insight into Twickenham Stadium and the world of England Rugby so it's exactly the same space. Obviously the stadium has developed over the years and our specialist tour guides will give information about that and tell you about the history and how the stadium and rugby has changed over time. You'll get to visit special areas such as the England dressing room, the royal box, pitch side, and some extra special areas as well. Our customers absolutely love the Royal Box because they get to sit where the Queen or where, you know, prestigious people have been able to sit.
