The Libet experiment in 1983 asked participants to note the time on a clock they were consciously aware of making a decision & about 300 milliseconds before their awareness a readiness potential spiked that could be used to predict a person's choice with about 60% accuracy.
Further experiments using fMRI got that to 80% accuracy.
These experiments became the most often cited evidence that humans do not have free will: If our mind decides before conscious awareness, then our consciousness isn't in control.
But what is the readiness potential? Do these experiments alone disprove free will?
