Deuteronomy, Chapter 17. Andrey Desnitsky. The Bible
We continue our lecture series on the book of Deuteronomy, taught by Professor Andrei Desnitsky. Today we'll examine chapter 17 (RBO translation) and the following topics:
Do not mix the clean with the unclean.
It is an abomination to sacrifice a large, blemished animal.
The Lord forbids the Jews from worshiping the sun, moon, stars, or any idol.
Priests served as judges and passed various sentences, including the death penalty.
In the Promised Land, the appointment of a ruler was strictly limited to those chosen by God.
The ruler was forbidden from having multiple wives, possessing great wealth, or living frugally.
The king must set an example for his people.
