Testing for cation (1) in unknown solution using sodium hydroxide and warming
In this video, I will demonstrate how to carry out the test for an unknown cation using sodium hydroxide solution and warming.
Observation: Upon warming, bubbles / effervescence seen. The gas turns damp red litmus paper blue.
Conclusion: Ammonia gas was given off. Ammonium ion is present in the unknown solution
