Dealing with depression as a filmmaker
In May 2021, I launched a daily vlog with some friends called Memorable May, something I had been eagerly anticipating for years. However, it quickly turned into one of the most challenging months of my life.
We all experience highs and lows, and naturally, we tend to want to share and showcase the joyful, memorable moments in. That’s why social media often feels like a highlight reel—there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but it’s only a small part of the story. What we rarely see is the other 80%: the mundane routines, the struggles, the messes.
Now, I want to pull back the curtain and show you what you didn’t see. I want to reveal what was happening beneath the surface—how this month was much more complex and emotionally draining than the fun and excitement that appeared on screen.
