Emergency World Naked Bike Ride in Portland
Ongoing protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies took a two-wheeled turn in Portland today, when hundreds of people — some fully or partially nude — gathered for what organizers dubbed an Emergency World Naked Bike Ride.
Heavy rain and chilly temperatures meant many participants were clothed, but others were topless, bottomless, or only wore see-through plastic ponchos to stay dry.
Nude cycling protests date back more than 20 years in Portland, but typically these naked bike rides happen in warmer weather. This ride, which started on the east side of the Willamette River, crossed over to reach the city’s U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement facility a bit after 4 p.m.
“I don’t see no riot here, why are you in riot gear?” nude and clothed protesters chanted at Portland and federal law enforcement. After about 20 minutes, Portland police officers ordered demonstrators to stop blocking the city street, and many cyclists moved on.
