Homme is please to announce a solo show, ‘Intrusive Thoughts’ by Daniel Cappello at 52 O St. NW Washington DC. The show runs April 1, 2022 to April 17, 2022. Opening reception April 1st, 2022 7pm-9pm.
‘Intrusive Thoughts’ explores the artist’s intimate struggle with depression and anxiety.
Daniel Cappello’s graphic oil and watercolor paintings depict both a perspective of disassociation along with zoomorphic elements - allusions to isolation and his debilitating mental health struggles. As Irish writer Samuel Beckett proclaimed, “I shall always be depressed, but what comforts me is the realization that I can now accept this dark side as the commanding side of my personality. In accepting it, I will make it work for me.”
Artist Statement
Cappello is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Washington DC. The artist’s practice is influenced by his natural disposition as an observer along with his lifelong mental health struggles. As a teenager, crippling bouts with panic attacks and social anxiety led to him to isolating. Art was key to his catharsis. Cappello credits both skateboarding and art with saving his life.
