How the mobs looked before
This mob was originally designed to be added to Minecraft. And they did add it, but we’re used to seeing it like this. Jasper Boerstra initially created the strider with 4 eyes, resembling a caterpillar.
Many mobs looked different before appearing in the game as we know them. For example, one-eyed pillagers with eyepatches.
Here’s the ravager, originally envisioned by Jeb. Inspired by a manticore from Dungeons & Dragons, this creature made our current ravager look quite cute. Initially, it was supposed to be scared of rabbits—too bad they didn’t keep that feature!
And this is how the first wandering trader looked. Don’t even ask why he had an emerald in his forehead. Drowned mobs also went through changes; they looked like a mix between skeletons and zombies.
My favorite mob, the bee, one of the cutest in Minecraft, was supposed to look like a mutant wasp. No hints needed for the most annoying mob—the phantom—which also looked very different during development.
