What is the difference between technology and software | Information and Software Technology | IT

This is my take on things and, although I live and work in both arenas, I’m far from an expert.
To me, technology is the ability to make and use useful things. Technologies often overlap and some may be a subset of another. We speak of steelmaking technology, there is an automotive technology, and medical technology. Blacksmithing is a technology. So are computers. The list goes on.
Software is a product of some technologies. Which ones depend on the kind of software. Software is best produced by people who have mastered the underlying technology. Software is also something used by many other technologies to make things.
Software is simply one category of technology. One out of very a great many categories.
First, I won’t define what these two terms are because you can find the definition on Google.com. What I will do is try to explain each of these terms so you can spot the difference.
Technology. These are things created by humans to solve a particular problem. To explain further, I will say it is simply applying a particular knowledge skillfully to create anything that can make our life better. Everything around you that you can use, and you know it wasn’t naturally like that, then you are looking at a piece of technology. Examples: chair, table, fireplace, etc. Whatever you can think of that serves any purpose, that is technology. Technology is anything created to provide a solution to any physical problem.
