Grout Haze Removal Tips
While Urethane Grout is typically exceptionally easy to clean off the surface of ceramic, porcelain, natural stone and glass tile, some surfaces do create greater challenges in removing the urethane grout haze. Matte finished tiles, such as through or color-body porcelain, etched/frosted glass, and other porous tiles are specific surfaces that can be more difficult to clean and may require pre-grouting preparation.
The application of a water-based sealer over all stone or grout release, as well as certain types of textured surface ceramic and porcelain tiles may be advantageous. This type of tile exhibits a microscopic pore structure that can hold the urethane binder. This is a standard process for not only urethane grout, but also traditional Portland-cement and epoxy-based grouts that will result in improved/easier removal of haze from the tile surface.
Due to the abundance, and ever changing tile technologies available in the market today, both tile and grout manufacturers strongly recommend that a test area be done by the contractor to determine if the grout will affect the appearance of the tile surface.
