This video summarises the work carried out on the segmentation of precast concrete structures as part of the Endure project. It was shown in the "24 hours of concrete knowledge" organised by the American Concrete Institute.
The building remained standing after removal of two columns.
Partial collapse occured after removal of a third column.
There was no failure propagation and the building did not collapse completely.
This test shows that continuity and segmentation can be combined. In the event of an initial failure considered in current codes and guidelines, there exists continuity.
In situations in which failure propagation is inevitable, the building is segmented and complete collapse does not occur.
