Naples Waterfront: kiosks closed and owners protest at Palazzo San Giacomo
"Work, work, work!" chanted with a fist raised to the sky. "Work, work, work!" shouted with placards and taralli in hand, the ones once sold on the waterfront, perhaps with a spritz for a few euros, while gazing out over the gulf.
Since July, all this has been impossible. The kiosks along Naples' waterfront are closed because they are illegal. Today, the owners are protesting in Piazza Municipio in front of Palazzo San Giacomo.
"Due to bureaucratic delays, we know how things go," they wrote on a large placard, "we are asking Mayor Gaetano Manfredi for an extension to reopen so that things can be sorted out: because for us, it means survival."
