In this video, I show how I tried and eventually succeeded to build an economical and relatively simple air flow box composed of a small box fan, driving air through a small HEPA filter, mounted to the back of a polypropylene tub or tote. This HEPA air flow box has not yet been tested for leaks (will evaluate over the next 2 weeks) but it should work to pass sterile air through a small work area. This unit was designed for home orchid flasking but may also be useful for any situation where a small sterile work space is needed.

Parts list:

9 inch box fan - plug in type - $17.50

I am currently shopping for new HEPA filters - the one that I evaluated in this video did not work out.

~25 gallon, 100 quart, or 100 liter clear plastic tote or box - polypropylene - $15.00

Duct, Duck or Gorilla Tape - $5-10

4 bolts and 8 nuts - $2

TOTAL COST ~ $60.00
