In this video, we build both the hardware and software to drive a small wheeled robot. As we did in another example (   • ESP8266 Easy Photography Turntable Co...  ), we use a websocket for sending commands from any client to the server running on the ESP8266. The websocket is served to clients in a webpage that contains controls for the speed and direction of the robot.
