Checking the drag link on a semi-truck's steering system is crucial for ensuring safe and responsive steering. Here's a step-by-step guide to properly inspect it:
1. *Park the Truck Safely*
Ensure the truck is on a flat surface.
Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels to prevent movement.
2. *Visual Inspection*
Locate the drag link, which connects the pitman arm (attached to the steering box) to the steering arm (connected to the steering knuckle).
Inspect the drag link for visible damage, such as cracks, bends, or excessive wear.
3. *Check for Play*
Have someone sit in the cab and turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth (without moving the tires).
While they do this, observe the drag link for any play or movement.
If there is noticeable movement before the tires respond, the drag link may be worn and need replacement.
4. *Inspect Ball Joints*
