Barn swallow nestlings will call, open and close their mouths, and posture to request food from their parents. This is known as honest signaling.

This barn swallow nest is one of many found inside of horse stalls, the lower grooming area, and in the rafters at Tevis Barn at Bear Creek Stables, part of the Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve, ‪@MidpenOpenSpace‬

Baby barn swallows depend on frequent feeding by their parents during nesting season. Disturbance near nesting sites can interrupt this process and reduce survival.

Please help protect active nest areas by avoiding projects during the sensitive nesting seasons which runs from February to August in California.
