While four wheeling provides many driving challenges, climbing hills is arguably the greatest. The steeper the climb, the more engine torque your rig needs to ascend. And that means more traction is necessary. Gravity combined with varying degrees of traction, and there’s rarely enough, conspire to impede your progress to the top of the incline.
Naturally, the steeper the grade and the longer the slope, the greater the difficulty becomes in reaching the top. But the biggest factor is traction. Most climbs are loose dirt, loose rocks, sand, gravel or even mud and snow. None of these surfaces provide much traction, certainly compared with asphalt or concrete
