In this video, I explain the important differences between bodies and components in Fusion 360 and how they are used to create assemblies. I show you that a body is the actual solid 3D model you create, while a component is a container for bodies and other components. I demonstrate how extruding a sketch can create either a new body or a new component, and I explain why creating new components is a best practice for organization, especially in large assemblies. I also highlight a key difference in how they are copied: copying a component creates an instance, which means any change you make to one will affect all of them, while copying a body creates an independent, separate copy. Finally, I discuss how mirroring and patterning components also create instances, and I show how to create a unique version of a part that is not linked to the original.
