Hello everyone! In this video, I'll show you how to make a mini electric bike from a hoverboard and an old bicycle.
I made this electric bike for only 3,000 rubles. I'll be building the mini electric bike with a single motor wheel and a single gyrocompass board for speed control. The controller will be the stock hoverboard board, without any firmware or modifications. In this video, you'll learn how to connect a single motor wheel to the hoverboard board, how to use only one gyro board for control, and most importantly, we won't have to weld the front fork at all; it will remain as is, without modifications!
To build the mini electric bike, you'll need:
a working hoverboard; I bought it on a free classifieds site for 3,000 rubles.
This time I got a red hoverboard.
Any broken bicycle—it can be missing wheels, pedals, or a gear shifter—is fine. The main thing is that it has a working front fork, steering bearings, handlebars, and seat. The bike frame should be iron, not aluminum,
since you can't weld aluminum with cheap electric welding.
It took me just one day to build this electric bike!
The homemade electric scooter I showed you in the previous video took me two days to make. But that one involved more work.
To mount the single motor wheel, you'll need a piece of 20x40 square tubing, 2 mm thick and 30 cm long. I used about one and a half meters of this tubing, as I decided to use it to make the spacers. But you can make them from leftover bicycle frame components. You'll also need a 50 cm long 8 mm construction stud and a bunch of 8 mm nuts.
Tools include a welding machine with a pack of electrodes, an angle grinder with a couple of spare metal cutting wheels, and a hacksaw with a new blade.
A drill with 8 mm drill bits, a soldering iron, solder, rosin, and a meter of UTP5 twisted-pair cable.
This should be enough to build a mini electric bike. I decided to go a little further and immediately make a case to house the hoverboard circuit board and battery.
To make it, I used a piece of galvanized sheet metal, a rivet gun, and pop rivets.
And to give our electric bike a nice finish, I'll need a can of acrylic paint.
