The reason why I couldn't even put text on this video for you was because I upgraded Davinci Resolve (video editing software) on my laptop and now it doesn't work anymore at all lol. Usually I'm editing videos with my proper computer, but I'm on vacation rn, where I only have my laptop. Mallorca btw, if you're here as well, let me know! :)
ChameleonX is a plugdata plugin made by Ewan Bristow, just like EB-DynamicAllpass, the spectral delay I reviewed some videos ago, which also became my first ever affiliate deal. I just checked my mails and noticed that Ewan gave me an affiliate link for ChameleonX, too, More about that later.
Some historical context about ChameleonX: I think it all began when Zynaptic released Pitchmap: https://www.zynaptiq.com/pitchmap/
The plugin is now widely known for its potential to make colorbass sounds and other madness. For a long time Zynaptic was unchallenged at this new category of effect plugins, which spectrally resynthesize the input signal by mapping all of the frequencies to certain pitches.
One day a developer called Extracell released the freebie Pitchsnap: https://github.com/extracell/pitch-snap
Pitchsnap is basically Pitchmap from wish. It kinda does the same thing, but it sounds much more grainy and it has way less parameters. Still a cool plugin though. And 100% free!
Another plugin you all probably know already, which belongs to this category of plugins is Chroma by Xynth: https://www.xynth.audio/plugins/chroma
Chroma sounds great, but it has even less control than Pitchsnap, which makes it very characteristic, but also gimmicky.
ChameleonX's sound character is most comparable to the one of Pitchsnap, so if you wanna check out this workflow and sound for yourself, you should try Pitchsnap first, because it's free. However ChameleonX has way more parameters than Pitchsnap and while they are certainly extremely weird and labelled cryptically, you can see in my video that I manage to somehow navigate the plugin and find a good parallel layer for my melody.
